"2010 Serafino Grenache Shiraz Mataro (McLaren Vale): A hand built, premium wine business created by dedicated winemaker Steve Maglieri has resulted in international acclaim for his carefully honed, regional range of wines. Serafino has been bestowed with the honour of 'Bushing King' on two occasions, an accolade that resonates at the highest levels of Australian wine.
This grenache shiraz mataro blend sees 12 months of mixed new and old, French and US oak, resulting in a wine that throws sultry shapes and decidedly bold fruit flavour. Generous, slippery textured and imbued with gentle spice, this is an excellent tribute to an Australian wine style with its pleasantly portly weight, integrated complexity, yet easy drinking feel. Mixed wild berry fruits, sweet spice, a gentle undercurrent of earthy, savoury detail and a long, thick and satisfying finish, this is a readily appreciated wine when young that will mellow with some careful cellar time".
